Using data from the Census of Service Industries, this Note reviews aggregate financial conditions of nonprofit theater, dance, and classical music organizations. Revenue/expense ratios, detailed sources of revenues, and other information are presented for the three broad groups and for the following selected fields: resident theaters (LORT), stock theaters, Off-Broadway theaters, Off-Off-Broadway theaters, children's theaters, community theaters, ballet companies, modern dance companies, symphony orchestras, opera companies, and chamber music groups.

This article discusses a systematic approach to pricing management for the performing arts. Pricing management as presented here will include management of the information necessary to set an appropriate price, the decisions required to build a ticket revenue projection into a budget, and the communication of the product package necessary to attract an audience, including price and discount structure. Pricing will be considered therefore as an essential element of both marketing management and financial management.
