Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a package of charitable tax provisions that includes making permanent the IRA Charitable Rollover provision – a legislative goal of Americans for the Arts for the last decade.

The U.S. House Appropriations Committee today approved legislation restoring $8 million in FY15 funding cut from both the NEA and NEH. Ranking Member Nita Lowey (D-NY) secured the funding restoration within the non-controversial manager’s amendment offered by Interior Subcommittee Chairman Ken Calvert (R-CA). Heading into the committee markup, Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-ME) was also prepared to offer an amendment to restore the cuts to the NEA and NEH.

Today the U.S. Senate confirmed Dr. Jane Chu as chair of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). Chu is currently the president and CEO of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City, Mo. She fills a chair position left vacant at the NEA since Rocco Landesman stepped down in 2012.

Today, the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee advanced legislation (H.R. 4619) to make the IRA Charitable Rollover tax provision permanent in the U.S. tax code, as part of a markup of 5 bills highlighting the U.S. tax code’s impact on charitable giving.

On May 15, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) held an Open Meeting to consider whether to advance a notice of proposed agency rulemaking on net neutrality. The notice was considered in light of the DC Circuit Court of Appeals’ remand of portions of the FCC’s previous 2010 Open Internet Order in January 2014 in its decision in Verizon v. FCC.

On Wednesday, May 14, U.S. Senators serving on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee voted to advance the nomination of Dr. Jane Chu to chair the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). Her nomination will now advance to the full U.S. Senate for an anticipated speedy confirmation vote.
