The leaders of the House and Senate education committees met today to discuss the next step for reauthorizing the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). They released a statement here.
House Chairman Rep. John Kline (R-MN) is recommended to chair the soon-to-be formed conference committee of House and Senate members. The committee will work to iron-out differences between the House- and Senate-passed bills to arrive at a final, negotiated bill. The naming of conferees is expected in September, following the August district work period.
Seeing this organizational work underway is a great sign for enacting a final rewrite this Fall and helping advance federal educational policy to enable every child to receive a complete education that includes the arts. For more information, check out this news article.
