This year Americans for the Arts’ Annual Convention in San Francisco will explore the deep and diverse economic, civic, and social impacts that the arts generate across the nation, as well as the role of the arts in creating and sustaining healthy and equitable communities. The convention is the largest national gathering of arts leaders and their partners in creative business, education, and government, and is expected to draw upwards of 1,000 attendees.

Americans for the Arts today announces a schedule of events for its Nancy Hanks Lecture on Arts and Public Policy and Arts Advocacy Day, as part of the National Arts Action Summit held March 20-21, 2017. Now in their 30th year, the events are presented by Americans for the Arts with 88 national organizational partners representing arts, culture, business, civic, and education institutions and individuals nationwide. This annual series of events is particularly important with recent news that the Trump Administration’s proposed FY2018 budget shows eliminating funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and other federal cultural agencies.

Americans for the Arts, the leading organization for advancing the arts and arts education in America, today announced Arts Marketing and Audience Engagement in the 21st Century: Building the Capacity of Pennsylvania’s Cultural Sector, a new, five-year initiative to strengthen and advance the arts marketing and audience engagement skills of Pennsylvania-based arts and cultural professionals. The first cohort of participants will start in July 2017.

Americans for the Arts and The United States Conference of Mayors presented the 2017 Public Arts Leadership Awards at the mayors’ Winter Meeting. Satish Hiremath, mayor of Oro Valley, Arizona, was awarded the National Award for Local Arts Leadership for cities with a population fewer than 100,000.
