Description:

Immaterial represents the complex global network of knowledge, communication and creative collaboration redefining contemporary culture. The contemporary library is being transformed from a “house of knowledge” into a “web of thought”. The installation is an immersive threshold into digital knowledge space - a world of infinitely connected rays of light comprised of 144 unique literary quotes. The lines map the locations of each library in Atlanta- Fulton Public Library System. The outline of the fitted acrylic panels represents the neighborhoods served by each library in the system. The artwork is assembled of four layers of acrylic material, each with its own visual properties. The base layer is opaque mirror; the second, a light-emitting radiant layer of vibrant green; third is a clear ‘depth’ layer; and fourth is a two-way mirror. Combined, the layers reflect, refract, and transmit light to create an infinite ‘bounce’ of light and thought.
