Announcing the 2017 BCA 10 Honorees

The BCA 10 Awards, presented on October 11, 2017 at a black-tie gala at the Central Park Boathouse in New York City, will honor 10 companies for their exceptional commitment to the arts through grants, local partnerships, volunteer programs, matching gifts, sponsorships, and board membership.

Latest Economic Data Tracks Arts and Cultural Jobs per State

For the first time, state leaders will have authoritative federal data on arts and cultural employment and compensation in their state with the announcement of the latest findings from the Arts and Cultural Production Satellite Account (ACPSA). A collaboration of the National Endowment for the Arts and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), the ACPSA is the first federal effort to provide in-depth analysis of the arts and cultural sector's contributions to the U.S. economy. 2017 Trends in Global Employee Engagement Report

A new study by Aon Hewitt has revealed that employee engagement dipped for the first time since 2012. The report, which covers more than five million employees at over 1,000 organizations around the world, showed that less than one quarter of employees are highly engaged and 39 percent are moderately engaged.

JPMorgan Chase conducted their seventh annual Business Leaders Outlook survey which provides a snapshot of the current business environment and the decision-making of the executives who operate in it. Millennials in the workplace: What they want, and how to manage them

Read the full white page from SmartCEO and uncover some of the figures shared by Ernst & Young in research questions like, “Do actual work skills differ among the generations?” 

 

Millennials received the highest scores for being “tech savvy” (78% agreed). They were also viewed as “enthusiastic” (68% agree) and “productive” (58% agree), but scored lower on being a “team player” showing “adaptability”, and being “hardworking”, “collaborative” or “entrepreneurial”.

Hear from Americans for the Arts CEO in his Huffington Post article “Sometimes the Budget Pie is Big Enough for Everyone”

In the post, Robert L. Lynch continues the advocacy theme and reminds readers that the budget process is long and complex, with numerous opportunities along the way for advocates to affect and influence the process. 

 

Arts Mobilization Center

Americans for the Arts recently released a new Statement on Tax Reform and the Charitable Deduction in the Arts Mobilization Center.  The statement is about the importance of preserving tax deduction incentives for charitable giving to all nonprofit charities in the United States. The Arts Mobilization Center is the central location where members will find statements on timely political activity, action items, and news articles of interest. 

 

CREATE Act Update

On March 21, U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) and U.S. Senator Tom Udall (NM) introduced a bill to boost the creative economy and support the development of jobs and arts businesses in Michigan, New Mexico and across the nation. Understanding the importance of the arts to successful businesses and state economies, Dingell and Udall’s bill–the Comprehensive Resources for Entrepreneurs in the Arts to Transform the Economy (CREATE) Act–would support artists, entrepreneurs, and workers in growing their businesses, accessing federal resources and funding, and expanding their networks with local communities.
