Artist Jennifer Steinkamp work of art Murmuration is a digital animation activated within a transparent LED display situated in the middle of a five-story lobby of the Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse in Long Beach, CA. While researching historic representations of justice, Steinkamp was intrigued by the image of Ma'at, the Egyptian goddess of justice depicted with an ostrich feather in her headband serving as a symbol of truth and justice. Vividly colored feathers of various types and sizes float and move as if animated by wind and gravity in Steinkamp's video.

The work was recognized by Americans for the Arts Public Art Network (PAN) Year in Review which annually recognizes outstanding public art projects that represent the most compelling work for the year from across the country.
