Sitings: The Revolving Museum

GENERAL

Research Abstract
Sitings: The Revolving Museum
The Revolving Museum is located in Lowell, Massachusetts and is housed in the historic 1859 Gas and Light Building. This article describes a project of the museum called LocalMotive: Public Art Off the Beaten Path. As part of this project, outdoor public artworks were installed along the citys network of unused canals, railroad tracks, and alleyways. This exhibition follows the museum's practice of displaying works by individual local artists as well as community groups in collaboration with artists. It gives Lowell residents ownership of their history, their voice, their vision, and their city.
