The Center for Innovation, Testing, and Evaluation (CITE) is being designed in Southern New Mexico to be a city without a population, soley for the purpose of testing technologies such as cell phone towers and microwave ovens.

Adjunct professor of the University of New Mexico, Sherri Brueggemann, worked with her students, the investing firm, and the architectural firm to do a call for artists to create public art for CITE. Four winners were selected from this process and their project ideas and artist statements are on display at the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History.

ArtBar May Reopen Thanks to Local Arts Supporters

Last Tuesday, ArtBar by Catalyst Club in Albuquerque, New Mexico, shocked arts supporters by announcing it was officially closing. ArtBar is a nonprofit club, with 2,000 members, that generates grant funds through the sale of alcohol. Back on June 11, ArtBar received a citation after it sent a press release about an event to a local paper. The event advertisement had information regarding a cover charge, which the regulation and licensing department said violated the conditions of having a club license from New Mexico.

The annual congressional letters to the U.S. House and Senate Appropriations Committees saw boosted support; the bipartisan House letter led by Congressional Arts Caucus co-Chairs Reps. Louise Slaughter (D-NY) and Leonard Lance (R-NJ) received 134 signatures! Last year, the letter yielded 95 signatures. In the Senate, 29 Senators signed a similar letter led by Sen.

Congressional Arts Caucus co-Chairs Reps. Louise Slaughter (D-NY) and Leonard Lance (R-NJ) are co-leading a letter requesting $154.466 million for the NEA in FY 2015. In the Senate, Sen. Tom Udall (D-NM) is circulating a letter in support of NEA/NEH funding at the $155 million level for FY 2015.

On Friday, October 9, a  “Can Control” Mural Workshop for students will take place from 10 a.m. until noon at the Western New Mexico University Expressive Arts “Pit” located just in front of the McCray Gallery.
Rose and Watermelon7, an aerosol artist from Isleta Pueblo, NM, plan to introduce techniques and design methods for aerosol mural painting to art students. 
The public is invited to observe the workshop and the mural production starting at 1 p.m and to attend the Mural Dedication on Saturday, October 10 at noon.

Biography

Within 60 days of taking office, Mayor Gonzales convened over 100 community leaders to frame his administration’s work in arts and culture. Throughout his term, the focus has been on protecting, preserving and growing the Santa Fe brand; fostering broad collaboration; ensuring the arts were present in the lives of young people; and securing inclusive access to cultural institutions for the Santa Fe community.
