As we adapt to social distancing and shelter-in-place instructions, people all over the world have been turning to the arts to ease the effects of social isolation. People in Italy showed us how to sing and play musical instruments from our windows and balconies. Families are unearthing craft supplies, making new creations together to post proudly in their windows. From “pet museums” to recreations of famous paintings to poetry, podcasts, and parodies, delightful content is popping up all over the internet, providing a few minutes of entertainment and making us all feel a little less alone.

The creators of GivingTuesday, a worldwide day of giving celebrated annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, noticed the outpouring of generosity and community in response to COVID-19 and have created a new celebration to spotlight the good deeds happening right now all over the world. On Tuesday, May 5, join Americans for the Arts’ celebration of #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of unity and generosity, by sharing how you are using the arts to stay connected. Post your examples on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, and tag @Americans4Arts with the hashtag #GivingTuesdayNow, and we will share some too! Let’s fill our feeds with inspiration as a reminder that the arts can lift us up and knit us together, no matter the distance or difference between us.
