Local A and E District Assists Residents/Businesses

Monday, May 4, 2015

Station North, one of three Baltimore Arts and Entertainment Districts, has been working to assist the community after last week's protests. Located in the heart of Baltimore and spanning the neighborhoods of Charles North, Greenmount West, and Barclay, Station North is a diverse collection of artist live-work spaces, galleries, rowhomes, and businesses.

It's mission: Station North Arts & Entertainment, Inc. employs an arts-based revitalization and placemaking strategy by managing quality public art projects, providing thought-provoking programming, and forging strong supportive relationships with local artists, designers, residents, businesses, and institutions to guide development in the Station North Arts & Entertainment District.

Businesses in Station North along with arts organizations and local artists have organized stress relieving dance performances at the Ynot Lot, impromptu block parties, and free meals and safe spaces for Baltimore City students were provided when schools closed last Tuesday. Working with the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts and the Maryland Institute College of Art, Station North has developed a list of artist's responses and has highlighted The Baltimore Sun's list of marches, events, and ways to get involved in working towards recovering and healing from this past week.

Executive Director of Station North, Ben Stone, said in an email to constituents yesterday: "What doesn't end is the work we all need to do to make Baltimore the best it can be". Ben is also proud that Station North was recently included in Grist's list of "5 reasons there might be hope for Baltimore after all," written by former Urbanite editor Greg Hanscom.
