Texas's biennial budget session ended on June 20 with Governor Greg Abbott approving base funding for the Texas Commission for the Arts (TCA) at $6,669,614 for 2016 and 2017.

In addition, the governor signed off on $5 million in new funding for TCA’s Cultural and Fine Arts Districts program. The final Conference Committee Budget originally proposed for $10 million in new funding in 2016 and 2017 for cultural districts, but the governor chose to veto half of the appropriation to reduce state spending. Now, the state funds must be certified by the state comptroller.
