In early June, Tina Knowles-Lawson, the mother of international superstar Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, hosted her third annual Wearable Arts Gala which raised over $2 million for arts education and The WACO Theater Center in Los Angeles, CA. The event was co-chaired by Beyoncé’s former Destiny’s Child bandmates, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

In lieu of Disney’s remake of The Lion King—which is set to debut in theaters on July 19, 2019—the theme of the event was “A Journey to The Pride Land.” The gala brought out many big names, including Chris Tucker, Steve Harvey, and The Lion King film director Jon Favreau, who were dressed in their finest designer takes on traditional tribal attire to align with the theme.

At the event, fine arts pieces were auctioned to raise money for WACO’s arts education and mentorship programs. Tina Knowles Lawson and her husband, Richard Lawson, are committed to providing a creative space at The WACO Center where artists and youth have a place to develop, master, and celebrate their creativity and craft.
