Laumeier Sculpture Park’s Night Out Series provides a fun and relaxed, adults-only workshop environment in which to try your hand at working with clay! Learn slab construction and wheel throwing methods and explore surface textures and detailing to create a piece in your own unique style! A bottle of wine and some clay make for a great date night or night out with friends! BYOW (bring your own wine); light snacks are provided. Pick up your finished piece at Laumeier the following week. Friday, May 25, 6:30–9:30 p.m.

Laumeier’s Conversation Series offers free, informal learning opportunities for adult audiences through lectures and discussions about art and nature with staff members, visiting artists and community leaders. Learn simple design principles and building techniques to construct a small dwelling for a fine, feathered friend. Take a hike and learn how to identify local backyard birds, then return to the studio to put the finishing touches on your piece. Multi-generational workshops are a collaborative way for families to spend quality and creative time together. Children—along with a favorite grownup!—explore art and nature, develop a meaningful bond and create memories to last a lifetime.

Each spring, SHAKE 38 gives Shakespeare back to St. Louis residents, artists, performers, and fans of his work in a marathon celebration of the Bard’s 38 plays. Since its first year in 2010, SHAKE 38 has grown from a 38-hour performance by 200 artists to a five-day event attracting over 1,500 artists from across the region and dozens of diverse community partners.

Only one rule exists for participants: Make the play happen any way you see fit. The result is a dazzling array of events across the St. Louis area, designed for a variety of audiences to enjoy.

ST. LOUIS -- Shakespeare Festival St. Louis’ production of The Winter’s Tale opens at 8 p.m., on Fri., June 2, at Shakespeare Glen in Forest Park. Highlights to this year’s production include original music composed by St. Louis-based The Rats & People Motion Picture Orchestra, a diverse cast under the direction of four-time Festival director Bruce Longworth, and the unveiling of Schlafly’s custom-labeled draft beer, The Winter’s Ale.

Shakespeare Festival St. Louis’ production of The Winter’s Tale will be performed nightly June 2-25 (excluding Tuesdays) at Shakespeare Glen in Forest Park. Preview performances are scheduled May 31 and June 1. This is the festival’s 17th season of producing free performances of Shakespeare’s work in an outdoor setting.

Shakespeare Festival St. Louis’ summer camps consist of full-day workshops led by experienced Festival Teaching Artists, and include training in voice, movement, stage combat, and physical comedy. The final week features a performance for family and friends. Want to work behind the scenes? Camp Shakespeare offers a technical theatre track for students interested in learning all about production and design.  Sessions are limited to 30 campers. Ages 11 to 14 & 15 to 18.

Description: Local beer, donuts, bowling and the Bard will all come together in the Festival’s fifth year of presenting a free theatrical experience on a St. Louis street. After a year of collecting stories from Maplewood residents and business owners, our creative team will present an original play based on a work by the Bard and inspired by the city. Professional actors and community members will come together to perform the piece for one weekend in downtown Maplewood.

Ukulele superstar Jake Shimabukuro will present a free clinic for uke players! From 3:30-4:30 pm, ukulele enthusiasts have an opportunity to brush up their technique, expand their skillsets, and jam with this extraordinary artist prior to his 7:30 pm concert. Bring your uke, and come prepared to have an amazing time!

In his young career, ukulele wizard Jake Shimabukuro has already redefined a heretofore under-the-radar instrument. He has collaborated with artists including Yo-Yo Ma, Jimmy Buffett, Bette Midler, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, and Lyle Lovett; has earned comparisons to Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis; and has even played in front of the Queen of England! His concert set list includes original compositions and ukulele classics, along with his dazzling versions of music such as Queen’sBohemian Rhapsody, Schubert’s Ave Maria and Leonard Cohen’sHallelujah.

Soprano Julia Bullock will present a master class as part of the Don and Betty Wessel Emerging Concert Artists series. Five singers from Missouri State University, Drury University and Springfield Regional Opera will perform selections from their repertoire and receive feedback from our guest artist. The master class is free and open to the public, and any interested singers are welcome to attend and observe.

Winner of the 2012 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, Julia Bullock has been hailed as an “impressive, fast-rising soprano… poised for a significant career” (The New York Times). Originally from St. Louis, Ms. Bullock integrates her musical life with community activism. She has organized benefit concerts for the Shropshire Music Foundation and International Playground, non-profits that serve war-affected children and adolescents through music education and performance programs in Kosovo, Northern Ireland, Uganda, and St. Louis.

Shakespeare Festival St. Louis will present Antony and Cleopatra at 8 p.m. nightly (excluding Tuesdays) May 22 through June 14 at Shakespeare Glen in Forest Park. This marks the Festival’s 15th season of producing free, live outdoor theatre in Forest Park. As in previous years, pre-show Festival activities include a nightly Green Show at 6:30 p.m. showcasing local musicians, singers and dancers, as well as a 20-minute adaptation of Antony and Cleopatra, which, introduces the characters and plot, and a craft area for families. Admission is free.

Joplin, Missouri – October 2, 2014. In accordance with National Arts & Humanities Month, Mayor of Joplin, Mike Seibert, will officially proclaim the month of October as National Arts and Humanities Month at Joplin City Hall on Thursday, October 2nd at 2:00pm.

Participants will learn the basic "nuts and bolts" of the field of public art. The 90-minute webinar will cover some of the unique skills required for art-making in the public realm including an overview of public art and the public realm, project examples, programs, funding, implementation and resources for further study. Two case studies will be presented which explore the experiences of two artists who have transitioned from the studio/gallery to the public realm.
