Description:

Painted with layers of colorful, luminous auto paint, Spinning Our Wheels creates a mesmerizing narrative for the travelers caught in between worlds, and spinning their wheels while they await a shuttle bus to a flight into the skies, or a rental car for their visit to the Pacific Northwest. The optical patterns vibrate with jewel like colors, from cool deep blues to sunset colors throughout the length of the wall. With the dramatic Seattle skies, the wheels seem to be lit from within.

The layers of metallic paints glow, and the glitter sparkles, especially on the rotating wheels. There are 24 rotating wheels that are programmed individually. Interspersed throughout the length of the wall, the wheels move in a subtle, shifting rhythmic pace of variable speeds, animating the entire artwork. In fact, the retinal effect is strong enough that adjacent stationary wheels also appear to be moving. Bringing the fantasy world of custom car painting into to the Rental Car Facility, which is devoted to the utility of the car within our world culture, has brought smiles to weary travelers. In fact, the wall is becoming a photo-op spot. This artwork site was necessarily a two-dimensional application to the existing fence. The dimension of movement and the depth of color have transformed the flatness of the given site. The effect of the length of color against the silver gray skies, of which there are many, is wondrous, and when the sun appears, there is a touch of magic.
