The Rensselaer Orchestra is an ensemble of undergraduate and graduate students at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. Under the direction of Maestro Nicholas DeMaison, the ensemble will perform Missy Mazzoli’s River Rouge Transfiguration and Jean Sibelius’s Symphony No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 82. This performance will celebrate the launch of Rensselaer’s new Bachelor of Science in Music.

The Clemente Open Studio Event, May 17th & 18th, 2018
The Clemente Soto Velez Cultural and Educational Center is hosting its annual Building-Wide Visual & Performing Arts Open Studios Event on Thursday, May 17th, from 6-9pm and Friday, May 18th, from 6-9pm and will feature performance, dance and musical events. Professor Anna Pegler-Gordan discusses the role of photography in shaping immigration policy ahead of a panel discussion with Carl Takei, senior staff attorney at ACLU’s Trone Center for Justice and Equality; Muzzaffar Chishti, director of the Migration Policy Institute’s office at NYU School of Law; and Bitta Mostofi, an immigrant rights advocate and human rights organizer.

This evening celebrates the 50th anniversary of The King’s Singers with a reunion concert featuring past and present members of the noted British a cappella ensemble and the Distinguished Concerts Singers International. The program features works by Eric Whitacre, Billy Joel, and an anniversary commission by Nico Muhly conducted by King’s Singers alumni Simon Carrington and Bob Chilcott.

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and Yale School of Music (2017 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient), Warren Lee has performed in four continents, on stages of all sizes and in collaboration with international artists and orchestras. DCINY presents Total Vocal, the fourth annual celebration of contemporary a cappella music featuring arrangements from Pitch Perfect, The Sing-Off, Pitch Battle, and the American pop lexicon. The performance includes surprise celebrity guests, hosted and conducted by Deke Sharon, a pioneer of the contemporary a cappella genre. This performance will be streamed live via the DCINY Facebook Page.
 
PROGRAM: Contemporary all a cappella music featuring arrangements from Pitch Perfect, The Sing-Off, Pitch Battle, and the American pop lexicon.

Conductor Laureate Hilary Apfelstadt (University of Toronto) leads the Distinguished Concerts Orchestra and Distinguished Concerts Singers International in Italian composer Luigi Cherubini’s Requiem in C minor. The evening also includes a world premiere Concerto for Flute, Harp and Orchestra by Greek composer Dinos Constantinides featuring DCINY General Director Iris Derke on flute, Kirsten Agresta Copely on harp under the direction of Maestro Jonathan Griffith, DCINY Artistic Director.
