Film Tax Credit Program Funding Cut from Florida Budget

Senate Commerce and Tourism Committee Chairwoman Nancy Detert (R-Venice)’s sponsored bill to expand the Florida film tax credit program by $20 million was cut from the state budget. At present, the film tax credit program is due to end in 2016 and has already exhausted its $269 million budget.  Senate Appropriations Chairman Joe Negron (R-Stuart) and Sen. Andy Gardiner (R-Orlando) notified Senator Detert early last week about the cut; the budget did not allow for extra spending towards film tax credits.

With less than 30 days left to reach its $1.70 million Campaign for the Arts goal, United Arts of Central Florida announced that it has attained 77 percent or $1.31 million. This places them ahead of last year’s campaign by 9.7 percent.  Additionally, United Arts is expanding its United ArtsCard donor benefit, a buy-one-ticket-get-one-free and discount card, to include Broadway Across America.

On December 2, 2013, Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs Director Michael Spring was honored for his 30 years of service, credited with transforming Miami's cultural scene along Biscayne Boulevard and throughout the many neighborhoods and communities in South Florida. Michael Spring has served as a Board Member at Americans for the Arts for over 10 years, and Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs is one of our professional member organizations.

At today’s tour, led by Louise Buyo, Education Coordinator, explore works currently on view and get a special look at the Museum’s Education Gallery that celebrates creativity by helping learners of all ages discover the world of art. The Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins College is a teaching museum that stimulates transformative encounters with works of art while integrating art learning into daily life for campus and community. The Cornell Fine Arts Museum, located on the Rollins College campus, has free admission in 2018 courtesy of PNC Financial Services Group. The Museum is open year-round with works from its permanent collection also on view nearby at The Alfond Inn. No reservations or tickets are required for this event. Free parking available on campus and in the SunTrust Garage on Lyman Avenue with a Museum-validated parking stub. The Museum is closed on Mondays, during major holidays and for installation of new exhibitions. The Museum is currently closed for installation of exhibitions through September 7.
