Americans for the Arts, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts, will hold its Half-Century Summit and Annual Convention in Baltimore, June 25 –27, 2010. This is the largest gathering in the nation of arts leaders and their partners in creative business, education, and government. The Half-Century Summit will celebrate the accomplishments and advances of the arts over the last 50 years and bring together leaders from the across the country to learn, connect, and discuss how to keep the arts relevant throughout the U.S. over the next half century.
Americans for the Arts, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts, is pleased to announce five new Professional Development Fellows for 2010-2011. These fellowships for emerging arts leaders of color from the Great Lakes region are supported by Chicago’s Joyce Foundation. The Fellows will receive scholarships to attend three Americans for the Arts events in the coming year: the Half Century Summit in Baltimore, MD (June 25-27, 2010), the National Arts Marketing Project Conference in San Jose, CA (November 12-15, 2010), and Arts Advocacy Day in Washington, DC (April 4-5, 2011).
A week after the largest Arts Advocacy Day in years, arts advocates from across the nation are looking to Congress to take the next step in supporting strong public policies for the arts and arts education. On April 13, more than 550 arts supporters visited more than 250 Congressional offices during Arts Advocacy Day 2010. These meetings are catalysts in securing more funding for the country’s arts groups, arts workers, and creative industries.
Americans for the Arts, in conjunction with the Congressional Arts Caucus and 86 national co-sponsors, celebrates Arts Advocacy Day 2010 today. More than 500 arts advocates from across the country are meeting with their representatives on Capitol Hill, calling on Congress to support arts-friendly legislation and policies. A highlight of the day is a congressional hearing entitled “Arts Build Communities” hosted by Rep. James P. Moran (D-VA), Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on the Interior. Advocacy has been at the core of Americans for the Arts’ history and is one of the many milestones being celebrated during the organization’s 50th anniversary year. Arts Advocacy Day 2010 brings together a broad cross section of America’s cultural and civic organizations, along with hundreds of grassroots arts activists.

Bivens (ret.). Witnesses are asking Congress to support a budget of $180 million for the National Endowment for the Arts in the FY 2011 Interior Appropriations bill.
